The Education Matters Development Team

My name is Jon Ewen and I am a very experienced musician and recording artist. I also have an extensive portfolio of audio projects which I have completed for a number of high profile clients. I have been working with Education Matters and Jeremy Lucas in particular for the last ten years.

I was classically trained as a singer when I started my musical education. I was fortunate enough to be able to study under the renowned Associated Board Examiner Jonathan Marten who is an alumni from the Royal School of Music.

I am also a classically trained pianist and flautist with high grades in both from the Associated Board examinations.

I studied at the Total Percussion School in Archway, London before becoming a session and touring musician which has continued alongside my teaching for the last twenty years.

I have been teaching the drum kit, hand and tuned percussion both one to one both privately in a wide range of educational establishments. I also offer tuition for singing, keyboard, piano and flute in between my performance and recording schedules.

I also working as a composer of both contemporary and classical pieces.

I look forward to working with you.

Geoff Sharkey Music

My name is Geoff Sharkey and I am a very experienced musician and recording artist.  I have been working with Education Matters and Jeremy Lucas in particular for the last twenty years.

I have been a professional musician from the age of seventeen when I signed my first recording contract and recorded at the famous Abbey Road Studios. I am a guitarist, vocalist, songwriter, composer and multi-instrumentalist.

I have recorded numerous albums and worked as a session musician in London. I have toured extensively all over the world and worked with top musicians. I have always enjoyed performing live and still do. I have been teaching acoustic and electric guitar, bass and ukulele for 20 years with students ranging from 7 to 80! One of my students won a music scholarship to the renowned Snape Maltings.

Many have gone on to form bands and enjoy successful music careers. Session work continues incorporating: acoustic guitar, electric guitar, fretless bass, bass, piano and vocals.

Music has such a powerful effect on wellbeing and I specialise in music therapy for both children and adults. I have worked with Musical Keys, a charitable organisation focused on additional needs which I find very fulfilling.

I look forward to working with you.

My name is Jeremy Lucas. I am the founder of Education Matters. I started Education Matters in 1997 when I first started offering audio training packages and I then moved into teaching English online as this is my specialist field. I will do my best to help you build on your skills and confidence in using the English language.

Whatever you want to achieve in learning English I will do my best to help. If you want to learn about the British culture or you want to improve your professional communication I can give you the opportunity to do so. Most importantly, I can support your linguistic needs whatever they may be.

I have developed and implemented successful online teaching systems for English, both first and second language over the last 20 years. I have taught both one to one and small groups. I prefer to use the Zoom platform for teaching but I am happy to accommodate your requirements if you wish to use other software.

More recently I have successfully delivered English to small groups for key stage three, creative writing and vocabulary development, and for key stage four poetry analysis and studied the background and context of Inspector Calls and the roles of Lady Macbeth.

In the field of English as a Foreign Language I have delivered courses for adults in both general English, specialising in pronunciation, meaning and context of language especially the tenses and modal forms, examination preparation for a range of EFL exams, and in the professional areas of project management, pharmaceutical and legal English.

I also experienced success in project management of the establishment of online learning systems in the areas of insurance and financial services and I developed an audio training course for the Financial Planning Certificates. I have an insightful understanding of both the linguistic and professional needs of students.

I am married and I have four adult children who live away from home and I have a 3 year old granddaughter.

I am  a semi professional musician. I have toured both in the UK and abroad from Europe to Hong Kong. My main instruments is guitar.  I still regularly perform live.  I also write short stories and children's fiction both in text and audio format.

I look forward to sharing some of my experience and culture with you.

My name is Marilla Miles Wilson, and I am a fully-qualified English teacher. I have been working with Education Matters and Jeremy Lucas since 2011.

I have been hosting guests for intensive language lessons from overseas since 1995. I used to be a writer for the BBC, where a high standard of English language knowledge was essential. I specialise in teaching young learners and I can now offer a 'Summer School Online' for small groups.

You will be able to learn in whichever way you choose. Either the more traditional method using drill and reading and writing exercises to improve your structural understanding or using the communicative method which will help to develop your fluency.

Either way, for teenage learners this is the best way to learn. If you require one to one lessons these can also be offered. For more information contact me.

While I have taught young learners and adult in Spain, the majority of my teaching has been in the UK over the last twenty years, initially in a college environment, where I taught EFL classes, ESOL classes (for refugees and asylum seekers) and supported individual overseas students who were enrolled on vocational courses and needed support with their English, in particular the course for Cabin Crew. This often involved proof reading their essays.
